public/private partnership

The Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Plant operation is a public/private partnership.

Tampa Bay Water owns the facility.  The water is blended with other water supplies and delivered to Hillsborough County, Pasco County, Pinellas County, New Port Richey, St. Petersburg and Tampa.

American Water-ACCIONA operates the plant.  With a history of over 100 years, American Water provides high quality water, wastewater, and other related services, serving 18 million customers in 29 US states and three Canadian provinces.  http://www.amwater.com Headquartered in Madrid, Spain, ACCIONA Agua has designed, built and operated more than 70 desalination facilities and 320 water treatment plants around the world.  http://www.acciona-agua.com

The Southwest Florida Water Management District, responsible for managing the public’s water resources in 16 counties of west-central Florida, will provide $85 million in installments to Tampa Bay Water for eligible capital costs of the facility. http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us

Tampa Electric Company, leased the 8.5-acre plant site to Tampa Bay Water and provides electricity and source water for the desalination plant.  http://www.tampaelectric.com
