plant expansion
Tampa Bay Water is building on its success by expanding the Enhanced Surface Water System to meet regional demands in 2011 and beyond. The new projects in Configuration II of the Master Water Plan include modifying utility’s existing water use permits, expanding the surface water treatment plant and adding pumping capacity at the Hillsborough River and Tampa Bypass Canal, so more mid-range (higher) river flows can be captured for treatment or storage, without environmental harm.
The surface water treatment plant expansion is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010. The expanded plant will have a rated maximum capacity of 120 million gallon per day (mgd) to achieve an annual average daily delivery of up to 99 mgd when supply is available. With the plant expansion, surface water will comprise 50 percent of Tampa Bay Water’s system.
