Tampa Bay Water has reduced pumping at the 11 Consolidated Permit Wellfields and water levels in the Upper Floridan Aquifer have increased as much as 10 feet, even during the recent period of low rainfall. While conditions in the deep aquifer have improved, water levels in lakes and wetlands respond directly to trends in rainfall and many have low water levels due to recent below-normal rainfall. Lakes and wetlands will fill up from the top with rainfall, not from increasing water levels in the underlying aquifer. When normal rainfall returns to the Tampa Bay area, lakes and wetlands will see a corresponding increase in water levels.
