surface water monitoring (continued)

The HBMP serves as an early warning system to detect any potential changes that might adversely affect water quality, habitat, animals like fish, crabs and shrimp, and related recreational and aesthetic qualities. Current HBMP monitoring elements include:

  • Hydrology
  • Water quality
  • Benthic invertebrates
  • Adult and juvenile fishes
  • Zooplankton and larval fishes
  • Habitat/vegetation

Monitoring elements, critical indicators, sampling methods, and data analyses are tailored to specific environmental conditions in each area, and monitoring efforts are coordinated with other local agency programs to maximize use of resources.
